About this Print
In Medio Sanitas - The Focus is on Health.
This is dedicated to pharmacies, doctors, medics and all healing people:
The bowl of Hygieia, from which two Aesculapian snakes are drinking, with a red cross above it.
Often this bowl is depicted more like a goblet and associated with poison ("cup of Hemlockā)- instead Hygieia is the personification of sanity and physical health and in Greek mythology the goddess of health, providence and cleanliness, the word "hygiene" comes from her Name - Her bowl is filled with water (according to some sources also with fruit or milk, please don't nail me to it.) Hygieia is a daughter of Asclepius (Aesculapius), the greatest healer of antiquity and after his death also god of healing - the snakes, especially Aesculapian snakes, have always stood for wisdom, rejuvenation, vigilance - and: Aesculapian snakes have no fangs.
The red cross was probably first chosen in the 16th century to be recognized as a helper for those suffering from the plague - meanwhile it means much more.
"IN MEDIO SANITAS" - The focus is on health. š
The Story
Based on the medieval guilds and their heraldic symbols, I created a collection for special professions - and passions.
Whatever someone does with genuine enthusiasm and love, be it picking mushrooms, practicing a craft or writing poetry - deserves to be appreciated.
