About this Print
Whatever history is hiding behind the curtains of time, I'd love for the salamander to take a quick look into its past and tell the story of the people who wandered these stairs.
The Story
Since ancient times, and especially in the medieval era, the salamander has been accused of many serious things - it is said to be the most malicious and poisonous creature - even the fruit of a tree the salamander has climbed is poisonous; only the pig can eat it, but its flesh also becomes poisonous - and if a person eats such pork, he dies; all the water in a well would be poisoned if a salamander fell into it...
In addition, the salamander is the only creature that can live in fire, kindle it and, with its own icy coldness, even extinguish it.
The heraldic salamander has always been depicted as a clumsy, reptilian behemoth, usually surrounded by a flaming halo - given the endless vilification of this fascinating creature, I've made a clear decision to break with tradition.
